Smt. Allum Sumangalamma Memorial College for Women, started in the year 1969, and the Department of Computer Application was started in the year 2009 with the initial strength of 12 students, has gone to 58 students in the year 2015-16. In the beginning the department was headed by Mr. S.R.Gadgin, HOD of Physics, Computer Science and Computer Application. From the academic year 2013 Dr.A.M.Kalamma, HoD of Physics also taken over the headship for BCA Department and from the academic year 2023-24 Smt.Rathna.H, is heading the BCA Department till date and carrying out the work at its best with the support and encouragement from four guest faculty viz.,Smt.Shilpa Patil as Coordinator of the Department, and Mrs.Shaikh Yasmeen , Ms.Dikshitha D, Mr.Srinivasa C.S. Thus, the programme is privileged to have highly qualified and dedicated faculties. Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) is an Undergraduate Degree course in computer applications. With the rapid growth of IT industry in India, the demand for Computer profession is increasing day by day. This increasing growth of IT industry has created a lot of opportunities for the Computer graduates. Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) is one of the popular courses for the students who dream of building their career in the IT (Information Technology) field. The duration of the course is 3 years divided in 6 semesters. It comprises of the subjects like Database, Networking, Data structure, Core Programming ,Web Designing, Artificial Intelligence and Languages like ‘C’ ‘PYTHON’ ‘R’ ‘C# .NET’ ‘Java’. This course provides a lot of opportunities to the students over and across the world who are interested in Computer field and want to work in the IT sector. The Computer Application stream has grown by leaps and bounds and presently as per NEP-2020 the total strength is 178 students are pursuing Computer Application course. The department is facilitated with a well equipped laboratory with 34 sophisticated systems and paraphernalia. The department is bestowed with a separate book bank that includes more than 300 books concerned to various programs and applications.
