Smt.Allum Sumangalamma Memorial College for Women was started in the year 1969 and the Department of Computer Science was started in the year 1996. Department of Computer Science is an Under Graduate Unaided programme which provides a platform to students to acquire the requisite knowledge in the field of Computer Science through a strong theoretical background and practical. The practical exposure to Computer knowledge helps the students to face the challenges in this competitive world. The main objective of the department is to produce software developers and thereby extending their support in the nation building activity with specific reference to IT field.  The department was initially headed by Smt.Shanti B.Tabita, Head and Associate Professor of Department of Physics. At present, the department is headed by Smt.G.Sreevani with the supporting staff Sri.Satish.S and one Non-Teaching staff Sri.Pampana gouda. The Department is well equipped with 61 systems with latest configuration for the benefit of students. The department has two laboratories processing with the high end configuration and is been incorporated to practice the Mathematics & English practical. We also have a browsing lab where all students are allowed to browse the data for their study purpose. The Computer Science stream has grown by leaps and bounds and presently as per NEP-2020 the total strength is 82 students are pursuing Computer Science course, we also have a department library.
