About the Department 

The Department of Sociology was established in 1985 founded by Smt. LajavantiPuranicmath and Dr.Shapet , later on Smt. Kalpana joined in 1987 and served upto 2000. Dr. H. B. Jalajakshi, Associate Professor deputed from Veerashaiva college in 2010. After the retirement of Dr.Shapet  Sri. Ashok. MPhil joined as guest faculty in 2017. The effort and support of allteachers made the growth of the department of Sociology at ASM college is incredible. The department was started and slowly Arts students opted Sociology as one of the optional subjects. The qualified and experienced faculty in the department contributed to the increase of strength. Sociology has become popular and its role in enriching our culture and heritage. It develops personality and job skills among the learners. Most of the employment aspirants choose sociology as an optional subject for IAS & IPS and such other competitive examinations. Sociology makes the students to become more scientific and rational. Sociology create job opportunities in different areas like social work, social welfare, industry, business, government, city planning, administration, supervision and many other areas of community life. Dr.H.B.Jalajakshi, Head and Associate professor has attended several National and International Conferences. She has actively involved in research activities and published many articles in reputed Journals. She has been awarded as the excellent teacher by an International Organization. Eminent scholars namely  Smt. Susheelashirur, Dr.GowryManasa  and others visited the department on special occasion and shared their thoughts and experiences with the students. Smt. Dr.H.B.Jalajakshi Associate Professor, Retired on 31/03/2024, presently the department is headed by Mr.Ashoka.K.H.
