About the Department

The Department of Physics plays an important role in the functioning of the College. The Degree course in minor Physics was started in the year 1979 with an initial strength of about 20 students. Sri. B. Neelakantaiah headed the department, succeeded by Sri.V.Rudrappa, Sri.S.R.Gadagin, Smt.SHANTHI B TABITHA and Dr.A.M.KALAMMA. Presently, Smt.H.RATNA is heading the department with the support of one Associate Professor Sri.M.Jani Baig and two guest faculty members i.e. Sri.Daroji Abeed Hussain, Sri.Md. Hasheeb and one non-teaching staff Sri.Mallikarjuna.H.

The Department has four well equipped and updated laboratories which include:-

1. General Physics Lab

2. Modern Physics Lab

3. Semi Dark Room 

4. Dark Room

The Department is also facilitated with a Library which has a collection of 247 books. The Department offers Physics as one of the optional subject along with Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science i.e., PCM & PMCs. Presently, the Department has PC, PM, PCs combinations as per NEP-2020. At present the total student strength of the Department is 211. The Department has linkage with Govt. S.S.A. First Grade College, Ballari.
