REPORT ON ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

Anti-Ragging and Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Veerasaiva Vidyavardhaka Sangha's Smt. Allum Sumangalamma Memorial College for Women, Ballari.

Activity: Essay Writing Competition.

Theme: “Role of Students in Preventing Ragging and Promoting a Safe and Respectful Campus.”

As part of the observance of Anti-Ragging Week from 12th to 18th August 2026, the Anti-Ragging and Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell of Smt. Allum Sumangalamma Memorial College for Women, Ballari, organized an Essay Writing Competition on 18/08/2026 in the Chemistry Department. The competition aimed to raise students' awareness of the harmful effects of ragging and to emphasize the importance of a safe, respectful, inclusive, and friendly campus environment. The students were encouraged to express their views on the role of students in preventing ragging and promoting mutual respect and harmony. Around 10–15 students actively participated in the essay writing competition. Students were allowed to write their essays in English, Kannada, or Hindi. The participants showed enthusiasm and expressed their ideas effectively on the given theme.

2) Dr. Syeda K. Tanveer, Head & Assistant Professor of Zoology.

3) Dr. Basavrajeswari, Assistant Professor of the Botany Department,

were present during the programme and guided the students throughout the activity. The event was conducted smoothly and successfully.

The competition helped to reinforce awareness among students regarding the prevention of ragging and the need to maintain a safe and respectful atmosphere in the college.
