Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry is one of the oldest departments of Smt.A.S.M. College for women’s, Ballari, established in 1979 under the chairmanship of Prof. G. P. Hegde. The Department of Chemistry is decorated by well-trained and extremely motivated faculties as well as bright graduate students, the department constantly strives to maintain a culture of excellence in teaching and uphold the highest standards in chemical education. The department is privileged to have five faculty members with their expertise spanning diverse areas of experimental and theoretical chemistry.
The soul of the department is headed by Dr.P.J.Bindu, with the support of one Assistant Professor Sri. Basavaraj Hugar and four guest faculty members i.e. Smt. Anjana K, Smt. Rohinaz, Smt. Lakshmi, and Miss. Sushma and one non-teaching staff Sri. Basavana Gouda.
The department has two laboratories possessing necessary chemicals, reagents, glassware, lab wares and basic instruments for performing experiments in physical, inorganic, organic and analytical chemistry, in general and synthesis, analysis (qualitative and quantitative) and characterization of different inorganic and organic compounds in more particulars.
The department has its own library in addition to central library of the College. Sufficient number of books is available in departmental library to fulfill the requirement of the faculty members and students. A number of reference books and access to online journals are also available in the College Central Library.
Department has regularly organizing special talks to enrich the knowledge of students and faculty members. The Department offers Chemistry as one of the optional subject along with Botany, Zoology, Physics and Mathematics combinations as per NEP-2020. At present the total student strength of the Department is 177.
