Economics Department activity - National Handloom Day celebrated on August 7
The theme for National Handloom Day 2024 is "Handlooms for sustainable development."
The National Handloom Day is celebrated on August 7 every year in India. The day recognizes and honours the contribution of handloom weavers to the nation's economy and culture. India's handloom sector has a long history of cultural development. The first Handloom Day was celebrated in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chennai. It honours the tradition and skill of handloom weavers; the day promotes the use and support of handloom products. It encourages sustainable and eco-friendly practices in the textile industry. Students are actively participated in this event and explained the situation and problems are facing by the weavers in this small-scale industry and it's our responsibility to protect them. Around 80 students of BA IV and VI Semesters and Smt.POORNIMA Y, HoD of Economics, Mr.Gagandeep, Faculty of Economics Department, Mr.Ramalinga, HoD of History and Mr.Shamraj Naik, Faculty of History Department, were present on occasion.
