The Department of Mathematics was started in the year 1969.
Started with B.Sc.-I in 1969 with moderate strength, today the Department of Mathematics is having the strength 372 which is biggest of all the Departments of Science.

At present there are 1,246 books in the Central Library, the performance of the students from the beginning of the department was very encouraging. For the past 5 years, the performance of the different classes as follows:-
During for 2011-12 the overall performance of the B.Sc.- I, II and III is around 90%
- 2012-13 the overall performance of the B.Sc.-I, II and III is around 78%
- 2013-14 the overall performance of the B.Sc.-I, II and III is around 74%
- 2014-15 the overall performance of the B.Sc.-I,II and III is around 84%
- 2014-15 the overall performance of the B.Sc.-I, II and III is around 76% which is very significant.
Many Teachers served in this department on permanent and temporary basis. Smt. Kamalamma joined as founder staff of the Department, later Mr. G. Ramamurthy joined and served for several years and later he is retired as Principal of G.B.R College, Huvinahadagali. Dr.C.Somanath is the next member of the department, he is also later appointed as Principal at A.D.B first grade college, Harapanahalli. Dr. B.Basavana Goud later joined Kaarnatak University, is now Chairman of the Department of Mathematics, Karnatak University, Dharwad. Smt.Rekha Roddam appointed as Junior Scientist in USA, Smt. Umavathi J appointed as a Reader in Gulbarga University, Gulbarga.
The Department of Mathematics is teaching Mathemtaics for B.Sc. Degree students from the inception with an impressive strength.

Fully qualified, able and efficient enough in running the Mathematics Department with more diligence, involvement and commitment.
Imparting qualitative higher education to the Women students, being one of the mottos of the College the Teachers are encouraged to take up UGC sponsored Faculty Improvement Programme. Dr. C.Somanth was sent FIP under 8th plan to complete M.Phil who later on did Ph.D., in 9th plan. Also Dr.Prabhaiah V.S., present Head of Department of Mathematics was completed his M.Phil under 9th plan and also his Ph.D under X Plan.
Dr.Prabhaiah V.S., the Ex-HoD was guest faculty for MBA students at P.G.Centre, Bellary for three years and resource person for orientation programme at B.Ed. College, PUC teachers orientation programme conducted by PUE Board of Karnataka State. He is also one the Subject Expert committee member for the Selection of Staff for the post of Prof./Asst.Prof./Lecturer in local Engineering College, Bellary. He is also attended several International/National/State level/University level Conference/Seminar/Symposia/Workshop and presented his papers.
Dr.Prabhaiah V.S.’s three papers were published in reputed national journals, and four papers under communication. He guided three M.Phil. student of Sree Venkateswara University, Thirupati,
Mr. A Mallikarjuna Goud’s two papers were published in reputed international journals.
In future the Department plan to conduct more Vedic Mathematics Classes, Abacus Classes and Coaching classes for competitive examinations like CET, B.Ed., M.C.A/M.B.A, P.O. in Banking, Clerk-cum-Typist/Cashier in Banking, Staff Selection Commission Exams, Railway Department Exams, KAS, IAS, IPS & IFS Examinations….. etc., also planned to conduct Quiz Competitions for Degree students of our District and State.
The department if growing by leaps and bounds with the unsolicited co-operation from all the Students, Staff, Principal and Management.
