Degree Course in Minor Physics was started in the year 1979 with an initial strength of about 20 students. Sri.B.Neelakanthaiah headed the department, succeeded by Sri.V.Rudrappa and Sri.S.R.Gadagin. Presently Smt.B.Shanthi Tabitha is heading the department with the support of three Associate Professors, one guest faculty and two non-teaching staff.
The department has four well equipped and updated laboratories which include

2. Modern Physics Lab
3. Semi-Dark Room &
4. Dark Room
The department is also facilitated with a library which has a collection of 223 books. The department offers Physics as one of the optional subject along with Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science i.e., P.C.M. & P.M.CSc. At present the total student strength of the department is 352. The department has linkage with RYM Engineering College, Ballari.
